Choosing a Protein Powder

There are hundreds of choices of protein powders on the market, and it is very confusing to decide what protein is the best for you. Let us help. We are very picky with what we put into our bodies. We only carry the highest quality proteins, which have been researched thoroughly before selling them to our members. This is what we look for, and this is why we use Perfect Whey.

  1. Does the product contain artificial sweeteners? If it does, put it back on the shelf!! Artificial sweeteners are ingredients listed as aspartame, acesulfame potassium, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose.   These products are poison, and are illegal or considered unsafe for human consumption in many countries. While we are at it, high fructose corn syrup is another ingredient to completely avoid. It isn’t an artificial sweetener, but it is just as damaging and unhealthy.
  2. Whey protein comes from animals, so we want to know where are animals come from. Are they free range, or grass fed cows? Or do they live in a stall their entire life, on cement, being pumped with antibiotics and growth hormones, while eating very low quality feed? There are many reasons why we use Whey Protein over a Vegetarian protein such as brown rice, hemp, etc, but we will save that information for another time.
  3. Does your protein have a high Branched Chain Amino Acid (BCAA) content? BCAA’s contribute directly to muscle hypertrophy and recovery. They can delay onset muscle soreness and increase physical performance.
  4. Finally, we make sure that our protein has not been “denatured” in processing. Protein can be damaged through heat or chemical processing. If a protein is denatured it loses its three dimensional structure, and thus it does not function optimally in the body.

The “take away” from this little protein lesson is, do your homework before you purchase a protein powder! They are not all the same, and some of them can even do more harm than good.
